Growing Up

Dear Lexi,

I've been meaning to write this post for quite awhile now...but can never seem to get my thoughts straight.  You are 28 months old...but you are wise beyond your 2 years.  I'm amazed by you everyday.  Where just a few months ago you were struggling to say any words, you now use 7 and 8 word sentences.  I'm constantly floored to hear you say things like "Don't bump my chair, I don't like it"...and wonder where this opinionated, intelligent little girl came from.

You even seem to be able to recall that on Tuesdays, Daddy goes to play poker...and will ask him, on Tuesday, if he's going to go play.  You have so much of him in you...his love of cars has clearly been ingrained in you as you LOVE to play with cars, "drive" Daddy's car, and ask him to "go racing".  His love of soccer is also one you share.  You are a great kicker and will make a great forward someday.  But you love all sports...and will ask to watch a "bateball" game or a "ocky" game if we pass one during channel surfing.

I can't tell you enough how proud I am to be your mommy.  I marvel at your newest abilities...am dumbfounded by your use of words I didn't know you knew...and my heart swells when I look at you.

You will forever be my first born.  My baby.  I will love you no matter what.

Love,

Mommy

Two years

Dearest Lexi, Today, you turn 2 years old. You are no longer my "baby"...instead...you are a little girl. One with personality and opinions and ideas. You have your own sense of style and of doing things. You amaze me more and more each day with your understanding of the world around you. Your personality is larger than you are...literally. You only weigh in at 23lbs 6ozs, but yet are 34 1/4 inches tall. Which means size 18 month pants fall off your behind, but any size smaller looked like floods. Thank goodness for spring and summer when length won't be an issue. Though you are wearing 2T tops!! We had your birthday party on the 3rd. Lots of family came to celebrate your special day and Mother Nature blessed us with a gorgeous spring day. Mommy doesn't really know what to say anymore...I still feel an overwhelming sense of wonder when I look at you...even 2 years later. I still tear up when we snuggle and you ask me to "wock baybee". I still can't believe we were blessed with the miracle of you. You are an amazing little person...and mommy feels so lucky to be a part of raising you. You may be a little girl now...but you'll always be my baby. Love always and forever, Mommy

Happy 23 months baby girl!

Dearest Alexis,

I can't call you a baby very much longer because you are in fact not a baby. You are an amazing little girl. I marvel each and every day that you are ours. I still get weepy thinking about how blessed I am to be your mama.

You are using your words more everyday. But still don't use them spontaneously. You will mimick us. Your speech therapist says you're getting better...and I see it. You have an appointment next week with an ENT to assess all the structures in your mouth, just to be sure there aren't any problems keeping you from speaking normally. You are also getting a hearing test. Also, just to be sure.

I can't beleive that we are going to be celebrating your 2nd birthday in less than a month. Where did the time go? How did I miss you growing up so fast? The good news is that I won't miss anymore of you. I will be here for you, when you start preschool...when you have your first soccer game or ballet recital...even when, God willing, that first boy comes calling. I'm so very excited and happy that I get to share those moments with you.

You are my everything. My miracle baby. My strength. It's because of you that I continued to look for better options than a 4 hour commute. I love you more than I can ever express.

Love,

Mommy

21 months old

Dearest Lexi,

You are 21 months old. No longer a baby...but a full fledged little girl. My little diva.

Your personality is fully rooted. Words like shy and reserved are NOT used to describe you. You are outgoing and fun, running up to play with other kids...even if they are 3x your age. You know what you want and are not afraid to reach out and get it. A trait I hope you never lose.

Why do I call you my Diva? Because you HATE to be dirty. Anytime you have anything on your hands, you "give" me your hand to wipe...even if what's there is only visible to you. You MUST have a napkin at mealtime...and you will use it appropriately. You also get upset if what you picked out to wear isn't what mommy puts on you!

Your skills fascinate me everyday. Your ability to brush your teeth and hair amaze me. You're learning how to put your tops on...and can mostly get your pants on. Socks are easy...shoes are still hard. Your hat is always on your head, but you still need help with your coat, although at times you don't want my help.

You've started using more words as well. Besides the "up" that you've had for awhile and the "down" that you used occasionally...you've added "Maya", grandma's cat's name. "No" (said in the littlest voice) "Uh-Oh". "Pease" (for please) "Dada" and the one I've been waiting for..."Mama". A few years ago, I thought I'd never hear a little voice call me "Mama"...and now, here you are...calling "MAAAMAAA" when you don't see me. It melts my heart everytime.

You're combining signs with your "Pease"...such as the sign for "More" and saying "Pease". I love it that you are starting to communicate what your wishes are. You also have started nodding your head "Yes" more. I especially like when I ask if it's "Sleepy Time" and you nod "Yes".

Oh Baby Girl...I know you're not a baby anymore...and I'm so happy, yet so sad about that. You are growing up faster than I ever imagined you would. You'll always be my baby girl. I love you to the moon and back...infinity.

Love,

Mommy

Happy 17 months!

Dearest Lexi,

Today you turn 17 months old. 17 months. Wow. You are no longer my little baby...but instead my sweet, precious little girl. I love coming home to you each night and seeing your face light up with that amazing smile you have.

While you still aren't talking...you make your needs and wants known. Your new thing is to grab our hand and walk us to the freezer and pull on the handle to open it. What's in there? Popsicles. You know they are there and when you want one, you let us know. But I wish you would start using words, as sometimes you get frustrated with us when we don't immediately understand your gestures.

We've managed to get your poops under control. The answer? No more whole milk and limited dairy. You get Almond Milk and no more yogurt. You still eat cheese in moderation...and yesterday had some of my cheesecake...but that's the extent of your dairy consumption. And you no longer need Miralax to help things along. And you are sleeping all night. And you are eating. Well, still only eating limited things...but this month you willingly took a piece of ham off my plate and ate it. That was the first time you EVER ate meat willingly. We're making sure to keep offering it to you, but you tend to not even touch it.

As far as favorite foods go...macaroni and cheese remains at the top...along with spaghetti, rotini, pizza, squash, broccoli, waffles, blueberry pancakes, peaches, oranges, grapes, blueberries, cherries, bananas, teddy grahams and veggie straws. Oh, and popsicles. Can't forget those.

You've been all about books this month. Wanting us to read to you, or sitting on your own reading. You LOVE books. I'm so happy you do, as I love to read as well. You also love to play outside and at the playground. You aren't keen on the swings, but love the slides.

I can never tell you enough how much I love you Alexis. You are my miracle...I'd go to the ends of the Earth for you.

Love always,

Mommy

16 months

Dear Lexi,

Happy 16 months sweet girl! Mommy doesn't even know what to say...16 months already. You are 16 months going on 16 years! Your little personality has blossomed. You are independent and want to do things all by yourself, but always look to see if Mommy or Daddy are there watching. You are strong willed. And even though you don't have any words yet, you know exactly how to get your point across.

We've been using cloth diapers for a little over a month now...and I can't believe we didn't make the switch sooner. I love them. And I think you do as well. You've switched to Almond Milk as the therapist believes your constipation may be the result of a food intolerance to dairy. It's been almost 2 weeks, and I haven't really noticed a difference, but you will drink the Almond Milk cold...something you wouldn't do with whole milk.

You went on your second vacation this month. Wisconsin Dells was allot of fun and you thoroughly enjoyed the water parks, the Ducks, feeding the Deer, even the Jet Boat...which I might add you SLEPT through! Crazy girl.

You are eating better this month. We haven't offered you any baby food...everything these last few weeks has been finger foods that you feed yourself. Could that have been the issue? Who knows.

So, we've had a talk, you and I. About the possibility of a brother or sister for you. What do you think? I know you love babies...every time you see one on TV you point and make a noise that I can only interpret as "look". Mommy has mixed emotions. I want so badly for you to have a sibling to grow up with and play with. But is 16 months enough time as "my only"? I don't think you care at this point in your life, it's Mommy that needs to work out the "mommy guilt" issues.

All I can say to you is that no matter what happens in the future. Whether you remain "my only" or not. Whether you remain my angel, or turn into a holy terror. Whether you become a doctor, or decide college isn't for you. I will love you. I will always love you.

Love,

Mommy

15 months old

Dearest Lexi,

Happy 15 months sweetie! You are getting to be such a little ham, er lady.

We took you to see the fireworks at Bicentennial Park on July 3rd. Last year you were way too little to enjoy them. This year you watched with wonder in your eyes. And mommy watched you with tears of happiness in my eyes. I was overcome with emotion as Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American" belted over the loudspeakers...as I'm so proud to be your mommy. You make me so happy. I love watching you see new things and learn new things. It's almost as if I can see the wheels in your little head turning.

You aren't speaking real words yet, with the exception of "MAM". And it's said with gusto...especially when we have you "prisoner" in the family room and I'm in the kitchen. You stand at the gate yelling "MAM" and I yell back "YEA"...this exchange goes on until I come let you out.

You point at all the things you want. And you want everything.

One thing you've started to do that I don't like is hit. I'm not sure where you learned it since we don't hit...but when you're mad you will swat at our faces...you've even knocked mommy's glasses off. We sternly tell you that hitting is not acceptable, and you usually will start to cry. I know it's your frustration at not being able to express what you want...but hitting will NOT be tolerated.

Mommy loves you SO much!

It looks worse than it was...you didn't even cry!

You're learning to use your spoon...but it's still messy!

And you LOVE popsicles! They are your favorite dessert.

See the cheezy grin.

You went to your first drive in movie...and watched Shrek 4, but you were more interested in the doggies that were there!

But you learned to drink from a straw that night! And have been doing great ever since.

You love to swim in your pool with your "brother"

We love you SO much!

13 months

Dear Lexi,

Happy 13 months sweet girl!

This has been a trying month for us. We switched from formula to whole milk...not a huge issue, you like the milk. But you're having poop issues. It's been awhile since you've had a normal movement...and I'm getting nervous...since things are kinda snowballing. You can't poop...except small little hard "pellets"...so you won't eat very much...which means you wake up at night hungry for milk...which means you're not getting enough sleep...which makes for a cranky, whiny girl.

I've called the pedi last week...we were trying prunes and prune juices...which resulted in one semi normal movement. But I can't feed you prunes everyday. So I called again today...to find out how much Miralax you should get. I mean you're drinking 32 - 40 oz of milk/juice a day. It's not that you're not getting enough liquid.

OK...just got off the phone with the nurse. The switch to whole milk is most likely the cause of the constipation. 1/2 cap of Miralax per day. Adjusting as needed until stools are like "pudding" (sorry readers...but need to write it down). We'll start tonight. Anything to make your tummy feel better.

On a different note, you're walking VERY well. Running almost. You still can't get to a standing position without holding onto something, but that will come with time.

You say the following words, "mum", "ba" for your bottle, "woof" for the doggie, "bahhhzzz" for balloon. You know that the cell phone goes to your ear, and that the comb is for your hair. You know where your feet are, and that the shoes go on them. You tried to put your shoe on mommy yesterday! You are a great helper when it's time to get you dressed, you know where your arms and head go on the shirt, and try to put it on yourself.

Tigger and Curious George continue to be your favorite "lovies" and you LOVE your pink coupe car! You will open and close the door, get in and out for almost 30 minutes!

That's all I can think of right now!

Other than I love you more and more each day!

Love,

Mommy

11 months - posted one day early.

Dear Alexis,

You are 11 months old today.  11 months!  I know I say this every month, but where has the time gone?  You're growing up before my eyes and seem to learn something new almost everyday!

Gone are the days of being able to put you in your swing and let you "hang out" while mommy cooks dinner, or uses the potty.  You want to be part of everything we do, and rightly so.  You are an important part of this family.

You are so close to walking.  SO CLOSE!  You will walk along with us, holding just one finger on one of our hands, while your other hand waves proudly at anyone you see.  You are left foot dominant when you walk...stepping forward with your left foot, then bringing up your right.  For that reason, Auntie calls you "Peg Leg".  LOL.

This next month is going to be so fun.  Not only is it a countdown to your first birthday, but you also have some fun things going on.

You got a spot in swim class again, that starts this Saturday and goes for 8 weeks.  You love the class, and you love being in the water.  We're so happy about that, since Daddy and I love swimming as well.

On the 20th, you will attend your first ever kids birthday party.  Your cousins, Emily and Sam, invited you!  Such fun!  Emily turns 7 this month, and Sam will be 4, guess when?  That's right!  You and Sam share a birthday!

On the 27th, you are having breakfast with someone VERY special.  Can you guess who it is?  It's the Easter Bunny!  Mommy and Daddy will take you to the Bird Haven so that we can all have breakfast with this special "friend".  I can't wait.  I hope you are excited and not frightened.  It's hard to believe you will celebrate your second Easter before your first birthday!

I can never tell you enough how much I love you, Peanut.  You make me smile each and every time I see you.  I love how you flap your arms like a bird when you see me, your way of telling me to pick you up.  I love how your face lights up when you look my way.  I love that you started giving kisses, even if they are open mouthed!  I love how you pull on your hair when you're tired.  Or how you rub your whole face, just like mommy does when she's tired.  I love how you snuggle into the corner of your crib, with your head right against the bumper pad, almost as if you're trying to burrow into it.  I love walking into your room, and seeing you standing in your crib, waiting to be picked up.  I love how you love to love on your Tigger.

This blog, this online journal, was started as a means to vent my feelings about our trouble conceiving a baby.  It morphed into a pregnancy journal, and now into a journal of sorts for you, Lexi, my darling daughter.  If I should be gone tomorrow, I can only hope that you can read these words when you're older, and say with 100% certainty, Yes, My mom...she loved me.

I love you Peanut.

Love,

Mommy

10 months

Dear Alexis,

It's been 10 months since your birth.
10 months since you entered this world with the most amazing cry.
10 months since I held you in my arms for the very first time.
10 months since I cried hot happy tears of joy.

It seems like a lifetime ago. I can't remember what life was like before you came to us. Nor do I want to. You are my sunshine. My only sunshine. You make me happy, when sky's are grey. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. We sing that song everynight just before you go to sleep. Mommy couldn't bear to sing the ABCs anymore, and this little diddy is so spot on.

You've mastered crawling this past month and are pulling up on everything and everyone. We've "taught" you how to get down safely off the couch (feet first) and you love climbing down and then raising your arms to get back up.

You're doing really well in swim class, I'm so proud of you. You don't cry in the water like some of the other babies and will willingly float on your back...something your teacher says most babies your age don't like to do.

Table foods remain a challenge...I think more for mommy than you. I'm so afraid you will choke on something that I don't offer you anything bigger than your windpipe...though I know I need to so that you learn to bite off small pieces. I know grandma works with you on that. I hope I won't become an overprotective momma...I want you to be able to explore and experience things for yourself...but I also want you safe. Daddy and I worked too hard to bring you into this world to see you harm yourself. I know bumps and bruises will happen, but if I can keep you safe, while still giving you your freedom, then that's the goal.

Your first birthday party is booked. It's so hard to comprehend that I only have one more "month" letter to write to you before you are a year. Where did the time go? I love you more than words can ever express.

Love,

Mommy

9 months old

Dear Alexis,

Hi Peanut! You're 9 months old today. Mommy is in complete shock. I can't believe it's been 9 months since you entered this world. 9 months since I first laid eyes on you. 9 months since I fell instantly in love with you. You amaze us everyday, but recently you've been doing so many new things. Just this past Friday you started pulling yourself up to your knees in your crib. So mommy lowered your mattress one notch (we still had it all the way up). Then Saturday, after swim class, and while Mommy was sitting in your room, you pulled yourself up to stand! And then started WALKING around your crib while holding on to the rails! Um...baby girl, when did you get to be such a BIG girl??!! You also will walk along on the floor if someone holds your hands...but yet, you don't crawl forwards. You can push yourself backwards, but can't crawl forwards. Mommy thinks you might skip crawling and starting walking soon...and that's scary! My baby? Walking? Seems like only yesterday we brought you home!

You also have 6 teeth in now. 4 on top and 2 on the bottom. You've bitten your fingers on multiple occasions and look at me like "what just happened"? But you haven't mastered actually chewing your food yet. Which makes Mommy nervous when people hand you goldfish crackers or other yummy tidbits. You love your Cream of Wheat...and dislike the "baby" cereals. You're eating almost a whole jar of food at lunch and dinner, along with your yogurt melts (your favorite) and puffs. You're wearing size 4 diapers and size 12 month clothes...though the thermal underwear Mommy just bought is 18 months and fits you perfectly.

Oh sweetie. People told me all along that time would go by in a flash, but I still can't believe that I'm looking at venues for your first birthday party already. You will always be my baby. I love you more than words can ever express. I hope that you will feel that love as you grow, and know just how much you are wanted.

Love always,

Mommy

36weeks 3 days

Dearest Lexi,

Mommy missed your 8 month post on the 10th...we've been so busy gearing up for the holidays...so I thought I'd post today, which is also a special day. No, it's not Friday, so it's not a weekly "birthday"...and it's not the 10th, so it's not a monthly "birthday". No. Today you are 36 weeks and 3 days old, why is that special you ask? Because today, sweet girl, you are officially "out" longer than you were "in". Makes mommy a little sad to know that you're growing up so fast. But I love to marvel at all the things you can do.

You're starting to wave bye bye...though it looks more like you're waving to yourself, but you try. You also shake your head "no"...and I truly believe you're saying no since you only do it when I'm trying to get you to do something. You're starting to pull up on us. You'll grab at our shirts and try to pull yourself into a standing position. Makes for a precarious situation when we're out in public if mommy's not wearing the "right" shirt. But it's still fun to see you doing these things. You've tried dry toast, which you're not too fond of, but you LOVE your egg yolks from the hard boiled eggs we make. You haven't mastered the sippy cup yet, or like holding your own bottle, but that's ok...you're getting there. You also have cut your top left tooth. And the top right isn't far behind.

Oh peanut, I love you more than I can ever describe. You are my everything. You make me smile even when I'm feeling down. These past 36 weeks have flown by in a flash, but I treasure every moment in a special part of my heart that's reserved just for you.

Love always,

Mommy

To commenter Jill in my area...please email me, your blog is private and you don't have an email address on your profile. Thanks!

30 weeks

Dear Alexis,

Has it seriously been 30 weeks since your birthday? I can hardly believe the time has gone by so quickly. You're becoming quite the little lady at a mere 7 months old (on Tuesday!). And you're wowing Mommy and Daddy everyday with your development.

You can sit up all by yourself now...no support needed. It seemed to happen overnight. One day you were still all folded in half, the next day you were sitting up so straight! And you love this new found view of the world. You happily sit in your highchair without leaning back and you LOVE sitting in the shopping cart at the store. You also now sit in the highchairs at the restaurants, or in the seat we have that clips to the table. You are so happy to be a part of everything.

You've outgrown your car seat. Well, sort of. When you have your coat on, the straps don't want to buckle...so we had to go out and buy you a "big girl" seat. This one lets you ride rear facing still...but will stay with you until you're 8 years old (if it lasts that long).

You're also rolling over both ways now and have discovered your feet...which promptly go into your mouth every chance you get. To be that flexible again...

You've started eating the Ger.ber puffs and yogurt melts and think they are the most fascinating things. We also have been giving you frozen grapes in your little mesh feeder to help with your swollen gums...oh yea! You're getting BOTH your top teeth at the same time. I predict that they will emerge within the next week. Your little gums are red and swollen, and we can see the white teeth just below the surface. You are chewing on EVERYTHING and drooling like a faucet...you also haven't been eating much the last 3 days, but we know that it's because of those teeth. Mommy has to admit, you are a VERY good teether...while you're a little more fussy these last few days, you are still very easy to console.

You've been sleeping through the night like a champ as well. It was like you just decided one night, "Eh, I think I'll skip my 2am ba ba and just sleep from now on". It's amazing.

You are also "talking" all.the.time. "Dadadada and babababa" are your favorites. But you reserve the "Mamama"s for when you're upset. Crying with your arms outstretched to mommy is a new thing...it's SO cute and tugs at Mommy's heart each time.

Oh peanut, time sure has gone by in a flash. I'm excited to have you experience your first holiday season, but don't want you growing up too fast. I know that, all too soon, there will come a time when you no longer want to be held and snuggled...and will want to do things all by yourself (heck, this is starting already)...so Mommy relishes these "baby" times. You'll be a big girl way too soon. Always remember that Mommy loves you more than anything in this world.

Love always,

Mommy

26 weeks

Dear Alexis,

Today you are 26 weeks old...half a year. Mommy can hardly believe it. I know I say this alot, but Mommy feels SO lucky to have you. You have no idea the joy you bring to me when I see you smile that toothless (almost) grin.

You have 2 teeth now...both on the bottom. Mommy and Daddy didn't even know they were cutting through...you were such a good girl...no crying or fussing! And that's the norm for you. You very rarely cry...but watch out because when you do, it's all out screaming! You wake up in the morning and happily lay in your crib playing with your Tigger or your seahorse until Mommy or Daddy come get you. Bedtimes are nice as well. After your bath and bottle, we lay you down and turn on your seahorse and you fall asleep on your own.

Don't get me wrong, there are times when you are a little monster...but they are few and far between.

You and Daddy in the Corn Box at the Pumpkin Farm
You and me kiddo, at the pumpkin farm.
Ridin' your bike

Oh how I love you!

20 weeks

Dear Alexis,

20 weeks old. Technically, 5 months old. Where has the time gone?

You have really found your voice...and babble ALL the time. It's precious to hear you trying new sounds and stringing them together. Mommy took some video yesterday of you "talking" while you were eating your carrots. Oh yea, didn't I mention? You had carrots for the first time yesterday. You loved them...smacking your lips and licking them. It was SO funny to watch...yet so sad too. As I know you are growing up.

You also love to lay on your tummy and play "airplane". You arch your back and lift your head and arms, so it looks like you're flying. You entertain yourself for a longer stretch now as well. We can put you in your highchair with some toys and actually enjoy our dinner! We used to have to either scarf it down, or eat it cold, after we tended to you.

You have your first professional photo shoot on Sunday afternoon. I scheduled it for 12:30 as you are normally just waking up from a nap at noon...and you're always such a happy girl when you wake up. I hope you are in a good mood on Sunday and smile big for the camera!

It's been 8 weeks since mommy went back to work. And everyday is still a struggle. I find myself making excuses to work from home, so I can sneak in a snuggle or two during the day. It really refreshes me. Grandma is still here those days watching you...she takes you for walks in the buggy, to the playground to swing on the swings. And today, you get to go to lunch with Grandma and mommy's aunt. You're such a lucky girl. You have so many people who love you so very much. But none more than me.

I love you baby girl...for now, forever, for always.

19 weeks

I had this post saved to drafts and forgot to publish it.

Dear Alexis,

You're 19 weeks old today...holy cow has the time gone fast. You had your 4 month appointment with Dr B on Tuesday. You were NOT happy to see him, and cried when he walked in the room. I think you remembered what happened at your 2 month appointment when you got your first shots. And like that day, you got shots again. And again you looked at me with that "Why Mommy" look and cried. Broke my heart.

You got a fever that night as well...your first. You were a miserable baby, and sure let all of us know. You didn't want anyone to hold you except momma...so I stayed home from work to snuggle you and comfort you.

You tried prunes for the first time this week as well. Didn't really like them. I don't blame you...mommy didn't like them either.

Mommy is still struggling with leaving you to go to work. Every morning at your 4am feeding, I hold you close, inhale your sweet baby scent and tell you I love you. I try to soak in as much of you as I can to get through the day...but it's never enough. Baby girl, please understand that mommy is doing this in order to provide for you. If I had any other choice, I would stay home with you in a heartbeat. You're growing so fast, almost right before my eyes it seems, and I feel like I'm missing out.

I love you with all my heart,

Mommy

Monday, August 3, 2009

Dear Alexis,

You're 16 weeks old and Mommy has been back to work for 3 weeks. And it's been a hard 3 weeks. For both of us. I'm sorry I have to work, baby girl. I know that going to gramma's at 5am on Monday mornings isn't your favorite thing to do...trust me, it isn't Mommy's either. But I have to work. It physically hurts me to be away from you. Mommy can handle a few hours, but all day? Way too much for me to handle. I don't want to miss anything. We spent a long time together, just the 2 of us. First while you were growing in my tummy, and then your first 12 weeks of life. We cried together, slept together, ate together, played together, laughed together. It was just you and me kiddo. And Mommy misses that.

I hold you at night sometimes after your bottle, and you're in that cute "not quite asleep yet" stage. Your eyes are all droopy, but you hang on to me. And while I know it's just your reflexes, Mommy likes to think that you know what you're doing. It's during these quiet times together that Mommy gets overwhelmed with emotion. I love you so much. My eyes still well up with tears of happiness when I hold you close. I hope that when you're old enough to read these that we are still as close as we are now.

I love you.

Love,

Mommy

Dear Alexis,

The last 31 weeks have gone by so quickly for mommy. As we get closer to meeting eye to eye, instead of foot to ribs, mommy just wants you to know what daddy and I experienced to bring you into this world.

You'll learn very quickly from grandma and grandpa that mommy and daddy have been waiting for you for a very long time. When daddy and I got married, on that beautiful beach in Maui, you were already on our minds and in our hearts. We often thought about when you would decide to come to us, and we weren't always patient. But we always thought of you with love in our hearts and hope that that year would be the year we would get to meet you. Years went by, and mommy was a little sad that you stayed away, daddy too. We tried everything we could to bring you to us. Mommy had surgery and took all kinds of shots...then, 31 weeks ago, mommy got a call from the doctor who told me that you had come. I can't tell you how happy I was to hear that news. Mommy started crying she was so happy. Daddy cried to...and so did grandma and grandpa. We were all so happy that you decided to join our family. Mommy still gets weepy sometimes when I feel you move inside my tummy, I'm that happy you're here.

I know there will be times, as you get older, that you may think mommy and daddy are "being mean" because we tell you "no"...but, Baby Girl, just know that we love you more than life itself. Mommy and Daddy would do anything to protect you and give you everything you deserve in life. You are truly our miracle baby, and we will never, for even a second, forget how special that makes you.

With all the love in the world,

Mommy
