Just some follow up to some questions...
Jen asked how the ear piercing went and if I was afraid she'd pull them out. The answer? It went well...and I'm not afraid of her pulling them out. The earring posts have grooves in them that the back "sits" in. You have to grab the earring from the front as well as the back and pull them apart to remove them (I know from my own piercing experience). So she'd need to coordinate both hands to get them out, not going to happen. She doesn't even seem to notice them...except in the mirror when the light hits them and they look all sparkly and such.
Kimbosue asked if I was scared about the swim lessons Lexi starts tomorrow. The answer? No and yes. No because I get to be with her and I know she LOVES the water. Yes because I know, inevitably, part of the class will involve me putting her under water...which I'm totally nervous about. I mean, she gets water in her face all the time when I'm rinsing her hair, but actually dunking my baby under the water? That scares the poop out of me.
Hey Rotten...I just remembered that C was in swim classes and had to go under...how did she take it? What was the process to put her under? Nervous me wants to know!

I was with my sister the first time she dunked my nephew under. We were at a resort and did it for fun, really just to see how he would react. She blew air in his face so he would hold his breath (I don't even know if this is really true) and dipped him under. He was shocked when he came up but didn't cry. I would think if Lexi likes water, she'll be fine. Don't let it scare the poop out of you!
Hiya. C was not a fan of the first few weeks of going under, but I don't know any baby who is. Our teacher who has been doing it for years and who's 10 month old is also in the class with us does it for all of the newbies. We all stand in a circle and she swims the babies around the inner circle as we sing a song and then when she gets back to the mommy (or daddy) she makes sure they have eye contact with the baby and then passes the baby under water and into mommy or daddy's arms. I am still a little uncomfortable putting her under from standing in the pool, but she and I have learned how to do it with amazing success from the side of the pool. I sit her on the edge and hold her hands and she takes a cue from me when I pull her in and under. She now closes her eyes and holds her breath. Don't worry if Lexi cries or drinks the pool water. It is totally normal. As long as she is in your arms when she pops up, she'll do great! My best advice is don't do anything you don't feel comfortable with. Our teacher avoids putting the kids under water if they are having a bad day which is so comforting to me. It's such an awesome thing to teach them and so rewarding when they have a great class. Good luck!
Our kiddo loves water as well and I'm planning on enrolling him in the infant swim session in May - he'll be just over seven months. I'm looking forward to reading about your swimming adventures!
We were supposed to put I & N's faces in the water or submerge them (no more than 3 times in any class)... I did it only partially. The girls are really good about having water splashed in their faces (my SIL told me to start doing this with their first baths), but I was still not crazy about dunking them!
Most of my friends with little girls have had their ears pierced. If I didn't have two girls wrestling with each other and grabbing each other's hair and faces, I might consider it. It would certainly cut down on the questions of whether one is a boy!
